Call For Testimony
We are pleased to share that NASWCO introduced a bill with the help of Rep. Jonathan Singer that will address secondary trauma and resiliency for child welfare caseworkers. HB17-1283 will establish a statewide taskforce to provide guidance to County Child Welfare Departments that are interested in implementing a Resiliency Program that includes peer to peer support and mentoring, specific training related to trauma, and will increase access to mental health services for the child welfare workforce specifically.
Due to current policies, CW caseworkers cannot testify in front of our legislature. However, NASWCO can and will on their behalf. Anyone who currently is, recently has been, or works alongside a caseworker if you would take 5 minutes to share with us:
• a short paragraph describing a time you were exposed to a family or child suffering from trauma
• experienced secondary trauma yourself; or
• can attest to the need for increased mental health access for a caseworker
We are committed to keeping your story anonymous. It will be shared with legislators and others to illustrate just how difficult and challenging Child Welfare work is. This is an opportunity for you to be a part of something that will hopefully lead to an improved work environment. If you can share something, please email email@example.com
